The Sea Islands Greenway is more than just a proposed restricted-access scenic road that will run across Johns Island. It's a way to ensure safety to all those that travel to and from the sea islands. It's a solution that will address the island's current infrastructure issues, while actually minimizing development on the island. It's a sound and eco-friendly alternative to widening existing roads. The Sea Island Greenway will protect the landscape around the road and maintain the natural characteristics of the environment around the road. More importantly, the Sea Islands Greenway will divert nearly half of the traffic currently on Main, Bohicket and River Roads - improving safety for everyone traveling on the island. The primary goal of the Sea Islands Greenway is to preserve the natural and rural characteristics of Johns Island while providing a safer and improved road infrastructure for all those that enjoy what the Sea Islands have to offer.
